Ok i'm new here so excuse maybe the stupidness of me haha

Anyway ive been used to african cichlids, loads of rocks and hiding places ect.
But all thats gone, so now i have 2 fairly big sandstone rocks (not too keen) and some drift wood.

What does an oscar need, or not need to be happy? The tanks around 50 gallon, only while he's still small im still franticly looking for a 6ft tank!

In theory, your tank in the picture would be perfectly okay, Oscars are not really particular about their surroundings, in the wild they would probably be serving around in the flooded rainforest for a few months of the year, so having wood in your tank is something you could consider. Gravel or sand is perfectly okay, Oscars like excavating so I think it's a good idea to give them something they can work with, they give them substrate that is going to be difficult for them to move around.

Because your tank is fairly small I would be inclined to take out most of your decor for the moment. Remember the more wood and rock you have in there, the less water you will have.

Oscars are really simplistic fish and whereas African cichlids often require a certain environment, o's really don't need anything special
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

Aaah thats cool, i pretty much emptied the tank for the reason you said, less water. Just a couple of rocks and wood in there for the time being. He's still pretty shy so i'l leave him for a bit i think

Thanks for the info, much appriciated

welcome to the site dave. Oscars like as much space to swim freely as possible in my experience; so as your Oscar gets bigger in your 50gallon you can just remove a few of the decor to give more space. (more space to beg for food )
