Does anyone have any experience with pool filter sand? I am thinking of giving it a try in my 60 Gallon Oscar tank. I may want to go with a sand and driftwood look.

Thanks

I used play sand in my new one, took a while to clean but I like the more natural look it has, looks like beach sand, or river sand.

i am using a really fine white sand in mine, its so fine its more like powdered sugar or something =/
and whenever my oscar or blue dragon goby's swim around it kicks stuff up.
today i was having a long (very anoying) battle with my penguin 350 power filter cause it sucked up too much sand and got jammed a bit. sounded terrible and i didnt want it to destroy my filter.
so after a while of cleaning it out we decided that we would try putting something over the intake part of the filter, apparently ladies pantie-hoes (i dont know how to spell it) help block the sand from getting in. so we got 1 of them for each filter, cut the foot section of each leg off and tied it around the intake with a zip tie. i hope it helps =/
i bought 3 bags of sand for 25 bucks each (lame) and now its starting to cause problems. anyone else know what i can do? i already raised the intakes as well.

sorry about jackin the thread here, but it seems to be the same topic.

oh and free3tbzz, using the gravel vacc (tried it for the first time today) it is a bit weird, but should be pretty easy with a bit of practice. all you do is put the gravel vacc where there is junk you need to remove and hover it JUST ABOVE the surface. pretty straight forward, and just swirl it around to kick up a touch of sand and it should get sucked up.
once u get the hang of it, it looks amazing when its clean.
