Oscars per gallon...

in one of my crash course in fish culture, i learned that the fish like
tilapia, oscar, walking catfish, snake head mudfish, and koi normally needs
21 liters of water for every inch of body length. that would be the basis
of pond size projection to attain the ideal size of fishes on harvest time.
during that time, i was not aware of this forum where a fully grown oscar
needs a 55 gal tank.... by simple computation: a 10 inches fully grown oscar
needs at least 210 liter tank which is more or less 54.54 gal (210/3.85)

however, in aquarium hobby, people employ good filtration, thus you can have
a leverage for much lesser requirement of tank as against the number of fishes
but should not be too much discrepancies.

You also need to take into account the size of the fish against tank size. While water requirements are readily acceptable in a 55, it is difficult for a 15" fish to be able to turn in a 13" tank. I personally feel that the tank is too small dimensionally even though it meets minimum water requirements. Where cost is involved, the price difference between a 55 and a 75 is not great enough to justify the smaller tank. (I am referring to tank only and not stands, hoods, etc.)

And as a disclaimer, none of us recommend this many oscars in that size tank...

Probably a little overstocked in the long run for my 125 but these are the fish I am planning on transferring to the 300 gallon anyways when I get it set up.

Current fish count is:
One 2 inch Tiger Oscar
One 2 inch Albino Oscar
Two 2 inch Firemouth Cichlids
Two 1.5 inch Severum cichlids
One 7 inch Common Pleco

I am probably going to stock the 125 with African Cichlids after I get the 300 up and running. Right now, the 90 is just housing my 5 inch Red O and a common pleco. I'll try and get some pics posted shortly. These are the most recent pics of my Big O.

Yes, that tank has got an awful lot of fish in it. I am not disputing that they may be able to keep the ammonia and nitrites at bay, but I bet you any money that the nitrate is absolutely skyhigh at the end of the week.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

They're little. I'm looking to have em in a 300 within a couple weeks tops. Even if I have to move all of my canister filters temporarily. Here's more pics.

These guys are all over the place. Hard to get anything that's not blurry when they don't stop for a second. Prolly thought it was feeding time.
