I have only just looked at this site, and note that it may be geared more towards the USA, however just in case .....

We have just bought a new tank for our Pirahna's, however whilst the seller said he would be able to 'get rid' of the Oscar he has, he has been unable to do so, so I need to find him a new home. The local fish shop has recommended flushing him down the toilet!!!! I don't really have a choice but to take him and I will set up our spare 110l tank for him in the meantime, but want him to have a new, kind home.

Would be willing to transport him if within a few miles of us, I just don't want him to be flushed !!!!

Welcome to our community. No, we're British through and through, although we probably do have more members from the USA, but it is a much larger country.

Right, after reading your post, I am absolutely seething angry, really, I really want to know the name of the shop that told you to flush the fish down the toilet. I am going to name and shame these bastards and make sure everybody knows who they are.

Please do not flush any fish down the toilet, it is unacceptable and totally inhumane.

Put an advert in aquarium classified, they are UK based and only show adverts from the UK, loads of people use it

Thanks, I am more hopeful of getting a good home for the little fella now. It was not my fish shop, the guy we are buying the tank from said he could find him a home (he has a silver dollar too, but I can accomodate him in the smaller tank, it is just too small foe the Oscar), but has now said he can't and he was told to flush him. I was appalled too, hence saying we will keep him until we can home him. I just can't give him the home or space he needs unfortunately...

Thanks to anyone who looked at this, I have found a home for him now at my local shop who are very keen to take him. Sorry if it seems like a waste of a post, but was desperate, and hated the thought of causing him too much stress.

(Must confess though, I am tempted to keep him. He is a real cutie, but I just don't have a big enough tank :o(

IMO trying your best to rehome an Oscar can never be a waste of post!
Glad you found him a place for now and let's hope the LFS can find him an OFL for life!
