Namaste my friends how are you today? im writing you concerning a very mean female convict. I've had her for about 6 months now and boy has she grown, and in that time shes had a number of tank mates and through it all has ended her in my 29g. Now as far as im concerned with proper filtration and maintenance than shouldn't 29g be enough for a convict and at least another tank mate? But whenever i try she just becomes the biggest B**** and doesn't give them much peace. Am i destined to have her alone in this tank unless i move her to a larger one? any advice on how to tone down the hate of a female convict would be much appreciated.

removing it from the main tank and re-introducing it back could alter
his dominance but not an assurance....some people use the time out net:
scoop him in, let him stay in the net for a while and then release it
back. sometimes it work, sometime it doesn't but worth a try...

Convicts tend to be very mean fish. I am in a similar dilemma, I have a mean male who has been harassing the other fish to death so I put a border up and locked him up by himself on one side of the tank. It got him off the other fish, but now I feel bad for him because he doesn't have much space. Eventually I will have to rehome him but I recommend to just keep the convict alone unless you can find another fish that can put up with it, these are mean fish.

well friends thought id give a little bit of an update and i have to say the trick i've found that has worked thus far is Silver Dollars, went to my LFS picked up2 SDs and a baby EBJD and i cant tell you my convict is a bit less agressive. She seems a lil unsure of what to really focus her aggression on and has seemed to concede to just being a lil nicer thanks again for your suggestions

ya when ever you are adding fish its nest to add two because then the agressor cant focus on just one fish

I wish I had seen this thread before I wasted 6 bucks on a convict. Beat up my oscar and took away his birthday. I rehomed him the day after I bought him... luckily I have a friend who LOVES them.

Dither fish are usually helpful in this sort of situation - something quick and passive (tetras are good)

Or just get something meaner - mind you if anyone can tell me something meaner than a convict... !!

I think it's a female thing. Not really sure if it's a convict thing. HAHAHA.
