africans by their nature are aggressive fish so i cant say im surprised your baby flowerhorn to a little beating from him. but on the other hand it shouldnt take to long for the flowerhorn to grow and eventually eat the zebra so in the end i would put my money on the flowerhorn.......
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

that is what i thought flowerhorn will stand his place.. but for now, he was
beaten up... and i had to relocate him for good in an enclosed area with aro's tank.
having three big tilapia that were not eaten by oscars, 5x the size of red zebra,
i move them in the community tank to test how could they fare with each other...
remember the tilapia that makes my three big o's miserable... i will find out how
and who will be the boss now ...

sorry to hear paul. i agree with the thought that the FH would be able to hold its own. But i have a large red zebra that my brother gave me because it was beating up all the other african cichlids in his african community tank. He is doing better in my 55 with some other africans and many hiding spots. They can be mean as $hit thats for sure.

they (as do most lake malawi cichlids) do much better in a large community of africans. hopefully your flowerhorn makes a full recovery.

How long have your had your flowerhorn?

I noticed for a few days that my flowerhorn appeared rather "weak" against my other babies. (S)he would back down and run away in fright. Two days ago, that all changed. My blood parrot had been shooing the flowerhorn out of his self-declared home. The BP was feeling all high and mighty. Last night, the BP wondered over into the home the flowerhorn has decided to own, and instead of the usual where the flowerhorn would just run away, (s)he turned around, snapped at the BP, and said 'nope, sorry, this is my home, not yours.'

I said all that to say, your flowerhorn is about as big as my flowerhorn, yours may be a tad smaller. In time, the flowerhorn will realize his/her true place in your aquarium, and slowly, you will see the flowerhorn, be a flowerhorn.
4xOscars
1xBlood Parrot
2xJDs (pair)
5xClown Loaches
1xPleco

265 Gallons (84x24x30)
36" T5 Light for shading, sunlight effects
300 Gallon rated Living Color wet-dry sump
3L of SeaChem Matrix + Bioballss, ceramic rings etc...
1xIvy for nitrate filtering

I am always looking for better ways to enhance the lives of my babies. Hit me up, let's chat about fish!

actually, that flowerhorn is just part of feeders i've got a few weeks back...
about 6 weeks ago... but the red zebra become very aggressive lately...she is
moving the substrate religiously... and become hostile to every one... and
guess what... the tilapia who 5x bigger than her is no match.... i had to
remove it also in the community tank with damage tail and fins....

yes, flowerhorn fries mixed with feeders... that is normal here in the
Philippines.... but red zebra for a dime can also be a feeder too if you wish..

and this tilapia is also from the feeders that the aro refuse to eat
