I have seen both of these fish and they are both so beautiful, I want them both, but if I cannot have them both, I need to pick. RIght now I am leaning toward a Jag.

I read different minimum tank requirements on different sites, so based on anyone's experience, which minimum tank size would someone who has (had) these fish recommend?

If I am able to keep both what is the minimum tank size with massive over filtration?

I am very excited about massive over filtration

dovii are extremly aggressive fish that grow to truly monsterous size. to properly house one, imho you should have at least a 180 gallon tank. as far as tankmates go i believe the only thing that could last long term with a male dovii is a female dovii, provided she has somewhere to hide from him if he should start to get overly aggressive.

as for a choice between a jag or dovii i would choose the jag simply because you can at least have tankmates with them(well most of the time anyway)....

What would you consider a minimum tank size for a jag?

it would obviously depend on what else you were going to put in along with the jag of course but for a single male jag to be comfortable for life a 90 should do the trick but something in the six foot range would be better.(more swimming room)

jags can grow anywhere between 14-18 inches in captivity. personally i have never seen any bigger than 18 but i guess it could happen.

i have seen you on mfk, so next time your there try to find a pic thread with green terra's jag. he has an awesome male specimen and you can see jsut how big these guys can get....

I am about to have a free 90 gallon to put in my bedroom, and I want to pick a large cichlid that is beautiful and aggressive that I can put in there, even if it is just for one fish. I like large aggressive cichlids. And given what I already have in my main tank, I want something different.

Ideas?

well since i already have jags if i had a free 90 i would look to something like an odo (Nandopsis haitiensis) or a female red terror (Cichlasoma Festae) but thats just me.......

a jag is at the top of my wish list....do u think a jag could live with a female festae in a 6foot, 500liter tank?

i can tell u this much every fish is different i have a dovii and he is one mean sob.. hes killed everything i have. well till he met his match a couple months back i bought a 14 inch red devil male. and they both butted heads and know they get along.. justs a heads up dovii r mean.. really mean..

you would need a VERY large tank to make that work. it would be an interesting tank though.

Haha not even i had them all in a 250 US Gallon and still no luck.... my dovii is a big boy know hes pushing 18 inches long

ummm the jag could go with a dovii if there is enought sapce id sayy 200 cuzz these cichlids are extremely aggressive but u should try get a bigger jag than tha dovvi
