I am curious for this.
I have pondered keeping a female jag with my gals since I am so flushed with females. I have read mixed things on their temperament. It may work, it may not work. Occasionally it does work, occasionally it doesn't.
What are the members' experiences here?

I heard of some folks on another forum, that kept them together and even had them breed succesfully.
looked something like this:

Isn't that cute and adorable?
So, the humor either means you think I'm completely off my rocker, or there is a decent enough chance to give it a shot, or there isn't enough information to give me an answer.

OK, hands up, am new to keeping American Ciclids so am not the person to advise but what I do know three things about the Jag.
* They grow Huuuuge....
* They are stunning
* They are Hyper- aggressive, I mean MEAN!!
Am I wrong? Often am actually.
As tough as the oscar is, they would be no match fo a Jag would They.

Dovii are hyper aggressive. Enough ppl have said jags are a coin toss for me to believe them. I guess if the experiment fails, I could give them to someone else. I have time to decide.
Thanks.

even though female jags are less agro than the male is it they can still become pack a solid punch when the mood hit them. unfortunately it would greatly depend on the temperament of the fish you’re introducing. like you probably already know it is a hit or miss kinda thing when it comes to mixing cichlid species but i say give a try and see what happens. just be ready to separate them if the need arises.

in my personal experience i wouldnt try it. i had a jag and an oscar and for the first week they were ok then one day i got home and my o was completely torn apart and i just managed to save him.
but different fish have different temperements so if you do keep them together have a backup plan to seperate them

I appreciate the input guys/gals.
I may step away from the jag thought
Any ideas? A cichlid that is nice looking and 8"+ in size as adults that would get along with my current compliment?
Maybe another BP or Oscar I guess.
