seanjohn25 created the topic: Just setup a 135 for my Arowana

So I spent my Saturday working on building a stand for my 135 I just picked up on friday for $200. Pretty nice little tank, and should fit my arowana for a little bit. Currently in the tank I have just the 1 aro at 7 inches, green terror at 7 inches clown knife at 6 inches 2 bristle nose plecos (GT killed one and can't find the other so maybe only 1??) and an eclipse catfish (can't find him either, aro may have eaten him too lol).

Filtration: I only have my sun sun running on it currently, its rated at 300gph....sort of under filtered, but I was wondering what I should get, perhaps a sun sun 4 stage with uv for $100 or should i got all out and get an fx5 for the messy aro? Im looking at saving money where I can so if anyone could recommend any other filter i could run combined with my 3 stage sun sun for now.

Here's a couple pics of the tank once I got the heavy sucker inside, and then filed up with fish in and happy.

You're going to need to upgrade before you know it, aro's need a minimum of 7-8' tank length.

The smaller arowana i've had since he was 4" he's now around 16" and my best guess, not even a year old. The big one is 26" and almost reaches front and back of the tank.

That's a nice tank and will work in the short term, but they grow quick, I dare say faster than Oscars, I'd wager 1-1.5" per month

I'd start looking for a tank that is 6ft long and 3 ft front to back right now. It'll take a bit of time to find those on CL or monsterfishkeepers unless you special order.

Oh you guys don't even have to worry about a bigger tank. I've got plans for a acrylic 8x3x3. This is just his setup till he is closer to 18" since the tank is only 6'x18"x24". It was a good deal and gives me time to figure out where the beast goes.

As for the stand, I just built it in one day and wanted to hold off on a face till I decide what I want for doors and everything. Probably painting it black or blue and adding the face in a week. It's got particle board waterproofed on sides and back tho.

Hey Matt that is a great looking pair of aros. What's the size of the tank and dimensions? It's pretty sweet looking.

Thanks a lot Jason! I'm excited for a bigger tank already. I'm building it myself tho, should be so much fun.
