Hello everyone here. I'm used to keeping Oscars, Silver Dollars and Jack Dempsey's but i've just been donated a new fish which for the life of me i don't know what it is?. Can someone help identify what it is. What's happened is a friend of mines relative has died and he was really into his fish keeping. All his fish are been given to local aquarium stores but i was asked if i wanted any before they went. Well when i got there earlier today there was only one left...This beauty!. I've put it into a temporary tank until i find out what it is and if i'm able to put it in with my Oscar?. Plus after i've recently posted my fish have been sick i'm apprehensive about doing anything at the moment. She or He is a big fish and looks in good health so please can someone help me here?

Thanks in advance Brucemarc

PS: If i find he/she isn't suitable i'll donate her to the local store but i don't really want to:(

people can not just identify a fish by description only.
a picture is a must to help us help you.

its a PARROT FLOWERHORN CROSSBREED HYBRID and can be kept with oscars and other cichlids

not be arguementative with bgh but the fish in the pic posted is a flowerhorn trimac hybrid. these fish grow to about 14 inches in length and are reknown for their aggression. in a tank with other large aggro central americans like jags festaes or doviis they could be fine but with non agressive fish like oscars it eventally be a one sided battle. i really wouldnt house them together or one day you might wake up with only one fish left.

necro....do you get trimac from the green on the mouth, front of the head area?????????as i understand trimac/flowerhorns to appear quite different to the pic provided by brucemarc?????

trimac x flowerhorn(female)

trimac x flowerhorn x2(male)

both fish pictured are from different stock

brucemarc,s fish

a kilin parrot../flowerhorn x parrot (male) that i beleived brucemarc,s fish to be ??

another kilin (female)from different stock

im sorry to disagree with necros identification but i cant see any resemblance at all to a trimac x flowerhorn.......and big similarities to a kilin parrot..sorry

i found with fhs colour is not a reliable way to distinguish the lineage. i was basing my thoughts on the finnage and shape of the face of brucemarc's pick up. i can see the same colour pattern on the ones you posted but i cant see the "parrot" face on his. i guess the only true to way to find out is through dna testing but i really dont need to know that bad.
