TOPIC: Question about Convict breeding

Question about Convict breeding 3 years ago #33041

So my convicts keep laying eggs, but they never end up hatching. The first time I saw that they had laid eggs. It took maybe a week and a half until all eggs were gone. TOk there was on the outside easy prey for the others. But since I got this new tank, they have had a big piece of Lava rock to theirselves. They made a home out of it.

I did a water change and saw more eggs. But still no hatches. Now, I would believe that I have a boy and girl convict... but these eggs keep dying. I rule out the possiblityof them getting eaten. Their cave is no-fish-land other than the convicts. The dont let anything near there.

So any suggestion as to why this is happening?

Well they both have gold on them. I think im going to try and catch one and see if I can get me a boy. Like I said, I always see lay eggs but no hatches. And its funny because one will gaurd the area while the stays inside. They are always together for the most part. Like two peas in a pod. But im guessing they are acting like this because they are both females.

almost definitely two females. i had bought 5 two weeks ago, that were an inch long or so. and two paired off, i isolated them, and fed the rest of them to my oscar, and now i have a breeding pair that has already successfully spawned. they are still feeding off their yolk sacks. but having said that... out of the 5... one male died by getting sucked into the filter and the other was just too small and kept getting beat up, so i went and bought another small that i actually took the time to identify as a male and almost immediatly it paired up with one of the girls and i fed the rest to the oscar and here i am with plenty of feeders on the way i just took this pic 10 mins ago.

They're too cute to be feeders !!!
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!

Yeah I traded one female for a male, he is much smaller and darker. I hope they stay in the same cave both females occupied. Because line of site wise, I have it positioned so the opening faces the glass and all around it, it is closed off... im trying to block it off so they dont try and control the whole tank.

I cant wait till I can get some babies in there. Fresh healthy feeders...
