Hi Everyone,

I have a texas cichlid which keep developing small lumps. He has one tiny one on his eye, and one on the base of most of his fins (they look like little bits of loose skin hanging off) Does anyone have any idea what this could be and if it can be treated?

He is rubbing himself on the gravel aswel (is suppose it's itchy)

All other fish in the tank are perfectly fine!

but the way you describe your concerns, it looks like parasite
to me.

could be some kind of parasite but without pics it is really hard to tell for sure.

if you can post a few pics of these bumps it would help in the diagnosis

Are they small red/pink lumps. I had a texas with these a few years ago and i know 2 other people who have had the same problem. These fish were all bought at different shops at different times. We think the cause is either poor breeding stock/ some inbreeding. My texas had them on the body and the fins. I tried all kinds of treatments but nothing worked. With nothing else left to try I took the fish out and cut them off (a delicate but quick operation) but these lumps grew back. Eventually i decided that there was something seriously worng with my texas and had to euthanise him. I hope my new texas doesnt get it. I hope you fish gets better

Hi This sounds exactly how i have experienced it.

I have added a photo of it - they ar geting bigger but dont look sore or red.

His fins have slight white streaks in them aswel.

Those lumps look similar to how the lumps on my texas looked but not as bad. Mine had more and bigger lumps, the lumps were also grouped together. Im not sure what to advise you to do. Just keep your water quality good and hope/ Good luck

The lumps on my texas have gone however he developed a few 'dropsy' symptoms.

I have treated him with an anti bacterial medicine and added salt to the water.

Semms to be recovering.

The lumps are back!! i though all was ok bt now they are back.

My little baby texas has now developed 2 red lumps by one eye. Thats the 5th time, twice for me, once for a friend and another friend had 2 in the last 3 years. They were bought at different times and from different shops. I am wondering if there is a problem with breeding stock in my location (just outside london). Perhaps they all buy from the same wholesaler. I am just going to keep my water tip top and hope the fish will get over it. Thats all i can suggest
