Does anyone know if it will be ok for me to put my newborns in the 6 week old fry? They're both eating brine shrimp but the older ones are almost 1/2 inch and I don't know if they will eat the younger ones.

If an Oscar can get something in his mouth, it will try and eat it, even if it has no way of swallowing it. Even if you can't, the bigger ones might possibly go after the very small ones. Why don't you try a few to begin with and see what happens.

these are green sevs, I'm just beginning to be able to see their mouths open when they eat the shrimp but I'm thinking the newborns will still be too big for them to eat, I'll do like you said and try a few ....thanks Boss

sorry, I thought you were referring to Oscars

I have got three Severums, two green, and one Gold red spotted and I wouldn't say they are overly aggressive at all so I would have thought you wouldn't have too much of a problem. Compared to Oscars, they have got tiny little mouths

Mine are very mild unless they're in with their eggs, I was cleaning during the first batch and Daddy bit me hard enough to bruise for 3 days. I jumped halfway across the room but I learned quick lol

Yes, cichlid can be very aggressive during this period. Apparently, red terrors have been known to kill every fish in their Tank, and jump out of the water at any hand that encroaches their spawning area.

None of the shops around here have red terrors or gold sevs, my pair of greens are the only ones I've seen in years. I'd love to have a mated pair of golds too. Do they come in other colors?

not only red terrors have this distinction. motas, jags, dovis, and odos are also know to launch themselves at approching hands and arms when guarding fry......

You know Necro, my jags had eggs again last week, I reached in the tank to fix the filter and she didn't care. Today one of my O's took a swipe at me but NEVER have my jags even tried to bite me.

as OFL suggested, try to put-in few new born and observed.
but i believe new born will be in danger because the bigger
one would love to much the egg sac of the new born.....if you
have some planaria in the tank, they would love to nipped the
new born and cover with their slime until they became larvae.
i have seen that development in my tank (with oscar fry)

The newborn are about a week old now and have lost their eggs sacs. There's nothing in the toddler tank except them and both are eating on their own (brine shrimp) I'm gonna wait till all the new ones stay up from the gravel then take a few and see how it goes. I think it'll go good and I can get them all in one tank.
I'm gonna need extra space cause I'll be keeping some pond koi over the winter for my stepson. Now I gotta learn what they like and how to keep them alive till spring lol.

ok then.... you can mix them. fry without the egg sac won't attract nipper.
the egg sac is the one that calls for intruder.... even the plecs would love
to sucked them all. but with out it and of the same specie, they would be fine.
