I was finally given "permission" to set up my 36 gallon bowfront again. Would this be large enough for a pair of breeding convicts?
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

i told her i was going to buy a tank to put in the cabinet under the 120 gallon for ghost shrimp, or some other feeders
the 36 has been sitting in our bedroom, drained, waiting for the last 3 months to be moved. and surprisingly she hasn't asked me to move it yet.

can 2 convicts live in a 36 gallon?

I read on the net that they as a pair need a 30. SO I would say go for it!

a 36 should be big enough for a pair of convicts to live in for life. im assuming your going to use them as feeders for your larger fish so with that in mind you will need a growout tank for the fry.

it is possible that the parents will cull the fry when it comes time for them to breed again.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

i bred them successfully in a 10 gallon tank with no problems for 4 months lol. about every 2-3 weeks id have new fry, and lots of them, all coming from a 2" fish. if your fish thats eating them you can feed your breeders as treats so you dont have big convicts. they soon get replaced.... they start breeding very quickly. like 1" fish can breed.

well i just set it all up, and took a filter and water from the 60 gal community tank, so i can put the fish in this afternoon. fishies are in their bags floating in the tank. i think i found the only female convict in town. will post pics later today.

i found a ten gallon tank out at my moms house... actually my first tank from back in the day. it has a diagonal crack in the glass about 3 inches at the bottom. it and has spread as far as it will go.
do yall think i can re seal the tank, including the crack, and use this POS as a growout?
