I rescued three JD's this weekend. One was gasping when I picked it up and I assumed it was the poor water quality. Three days later it is doing it in my tank and the water is perfect. I am trying to find the section on medmex/ possible gill infection. I tried an extra airstone two days ago. Any ideas?

Keep the air stone going, it wont hurt anything.

Can you please post your exact water readings for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Is he eating?

I don't know if she is eating. I don't have a routine with her so I can't get her to come to the top and eat, etc so it is hard to tell.

My Nitrite and Nitrate just tested 0 and my Ammon is in the safe zone, pH is 6.5. was in the safe zone. Could this be something with his gills? He was on the bottom gasping yesterday when I tried the airstone and air curtain and I still have them going. Today he is near the top and leaning slightly.

It is so sad as she has a baby with her - the baby and other fish are doing fine. Eating, etc.

Are you using Test strips?

you need to use a liquid test kit.

If your Nitrate is in fact 0 then you do not have a cycled tank, and that is your problem. (one fish can show signs and not the others)

Please get a liquid test kit and then post those readings.

In the mean time you need to do a 30% water change EVERYDAY!
