yup, its not my first rodeo with the convicts, actually the ones i have now, are decendants from some i had bred and gave a friend of mine like a year ago lol. he had enough and gave them back haha. i only kept one female for an experiment and gave all the rest away. i noticed that the females have an unusuually colorfull display while they are trying to find a mate, but then they pair up and breed and they turn black and dark, so i kept a virgin and have raised it without any males with it and its actually a very nice fish to have. its quite colorful, without question the most colorful of the convicts ive seen, and fairly peaceful too. it seems the mean streak doesnt come out till they breed. lol its funny, in my 8 foot tank i only see 1 fish defending those fry, and its just over an inch long lol, all the other fish are on the other end lol.
this is the one that ive kept in isolation from other convicts and hasnt bred. so far it has been an ideal tankmate with the oscars. its now solely residing in a 10 gallon tank just for the purposes of keeping the filter alive. when the jd's are a bit bigger ill put her back in the 55.
from what i have seen, the female convicts will lose most of that color after they have started breeding. if anything, this one keeps getting more colorful. i want to see how far it goes
