TOPIC: Texas Chilid

Any advice on a red texas chilid they had one for sale at LFS for $100 canadian and my brother really likes it he has 120g tank cycling for over month now he ready for fish. he thinking of buying this one. he gotta be like 8-10 inches big boy. told him not buy til i do some research on them any info be good if anyone knows on them.

the red texas isnt really a texas at all. they are intergeneric hybrid of herichthys and amphilophus parents. they are primarily used to create flowerhorn.

they tend to follow a true texas cichlid in growth and shape but are generally more aggressive than either of the parents.
if you do chose one of these for your tank mates should be chosen carefully because of their aggressive nature.


personally i am not fond of hybrids since there are so many different and varied true cichlids to choose from. but to each their own.
