I know this doesn't help, but it looks like a cross between a Jack Dempsey, and Jewel, and a Red devil. just sayin'.

the LFS sucks selling me some crossbreed crazies. They are nuts! They bite everything and were fighting the whole way in the bag and attack bubble lines, rocks and plants! But they dont fight anyone else, just eachother and it looks playful if anything. Full of character, but not what I expected. I was looking for good target /dither fish to get the heat off of eachother since I moved my tiger back into the tank and they fought almost as soon as he was back in there.

nope. I have a a young GT and she looks nothing like that. Her eyes arent so big. They said Turkish Cichlid, what the HELL is that??? I was doing websearches and all I come up with stuff from the Mediterranean and these are fresh water. Its funny because they have the red dorsal fin tips liike my JD too. And the same body style as my GT and my JD.

I dunno. Im missing something here and maybe their colors havent come in yet????

I know my syns had the same coloring as a firemouth until he got about 3 months old and all his beautiful rainbow colors came in!!

I thought so! I just don't wanna mention it before you do. Maybe you could try selling it for very high price since no one knows what they are!!

what if the store got the name wrong and its not a "turkish" cichlid but a "turquoise head" jewel cichlid??

If so it means I have an African in my tank. Wasnt trying to mix....If anyone know africans, what do you think? Does this resemble a Jewel cichlid with?

I also read in another forum that someone didnt know if this turquoise was american or african, and someone replied about how they are usually put near the americans because of temperament and most places think they are american because of that. The turquoise looks like a false GT , has similar coloring on the face in the online pic, but I dont see it in mine. This sucks.

I mean I thought they looked a little like a jewel, but when I typed it up, it seems more likely that it may be a differnt kind of jewel, the "turquoise" cichlid. Guess they are illiterate at the LFS!

That figures...
I had to tell the LFS several times what kinda fish they had, for they had no idea what they were selling.
I don't get that , everybody knows the Phractocephalus Hemioliopterus and the Lepisosteus Platyrhynchus, don't they?
Or at least if you sell fish thet grow over 2 feet you should know what you are selling.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
