Hi, I have had these 2 fish for a little over 2 years. They have grown a little bit, but not much. I bought them at a local fish store and they had them marked as "red devils" but when I asked if they were some type of hybrid, they werent sure. I told them that it wasn't a red devil; but i was so interested in the fish and the price was right I bought 2. I have since had them and for me I think they may be some mix of Parrot and Convict. They are kind of pudgy like a parrot, but they act a little bit like convicts as far as hiding, etc. But they have been great fish and are hardy little things, just wondering if anyone has seen similar fish.

To give you an idea about size, they are about 2 inches.

I had the same issue with finding out what type of cichlids I had. That was before I found this great site of course! I just googled cichlids and searched images. It was time consuming and I spent alot of time running back and forth to my tank, but I found out what I had. Wikipedia is also good for info. This is only if the guys on here can't help you, which I doubt. They are all full of info!

Parrot fish..

Parrot Fish are a hybrid mix between a Red Devil and a Severum. But this fish is smaller than a parrot fish and not as fat as one, i would say. Also a key difference from a parrot is the color is white with a little red/orand along the rear. These guys, being about 2.5 years old, arent getting much bigger than what they are and they havent tried to breed, so they must be the same sex.

Maybe I will take a short video of the fish to give a better idea of size and behaivor, then post link. They live with a large Jack Dempsey and a Pleco.

I think ur fish might be convict parrots. Maybe you could google that? they look similar to them but with more white. Idk. Just an idea.

Good info guys. I had never heard of "Short Bodied Convicts" before; definitely an eye opener. I have never raised convicts in general before, but I know enough about them to know that my 2 fish had some similar characteristics as convicts.

yeah, its just a pink (oligomelanic) short-body con. they are just a mutation, not a hybrid.
