My JD and RD had a short stint in the 140 gallon, but their aggressive attitudes have landed them together again back in the 60 gallon. They are great fish, but don't leave many options for fish keeping because of their natural attitudes. They suprisingly do good together. The RD runs from the JD, and the JD picks its spots to chase the RD... so for now, so far so good.

Glad this is working out. Hopefully it will continue when the RD gets bigger!

that RD is gonna get bigger and meaner...only way the jack will not end up being picked on is if he is one of those super aggressive JD's. JD's are very strong fighters, but not many can handle a mature RD!

Well, thats how my RD is at least, and I am sure that when my JD gets bigger, its gonna be an interesting turn of events! My JD is very passive aggressive...He doesnt try to fight, but when I catch him defending himself, he is a BEAST!!

My JD is really aggressive. He chases the RD to his retreating area, but not to the point where the RD is too stressed out and/or where the RD is getting any physical damage. Also the JD does leave the RD alone for long periods of time, so the chasing isn't continuous like the RD does to other aggressive fish his size. As the RD gets bigger, I will keep an eye on their relationship. I have another 55 Gallon I recently took down and may sell, but it's a back up til then.

Thanks for taking a look at the JD and RD show.

No worries on the HiJack jawsbush. this thread has been close to dead for a bit. glad you had somethin to say on the topic.
Yeah, they look pretty close. simillar shape. When I tried to take a pic with my camera the color looked more yellow too.

This is a more recent video of my RD named "Ardie Jr" (its mostly focused on his tank mate, but you can get a look at the rd...he's getting big)

This is my original "Ardie", it will give you an idea of what you have to look forward to... and sooner than you may expect.

CHEERS!

thanks mate.. im suprised the RD could hold its own.. considering that the JD is far larger. how fast does the RD grow? could it actually catch up with the JD? i assume the JD is slowing down in size now..

Yeah, the RD is growing at a rapid pace right now. The JD is pretty much maxxed out in growth. The RD will be as big as the JD in about 6 months. At that point I may have to split them, but so far the JD has the upper hand. But when those tides turn, they are going to turn hard. I will keep an eye on it though for now.

As far as the RD getting away from the JD. The RD is quicker and I gave him places to hide.

love the JD caudal. its a bit long.. selective bred or thats the original length?
how do u actually power grow ur RD? wat kind of diet do u give em exactly..? and wats the feeding schedule like?

one more question thats been bugging me.. if a fish had gone through a growth stunt, is it still possible to resume it's growth rate to normal?

Selective Breeding JD? well i have read that there is 3 basic strands of JDs. Electric Blue, a blue natural JD, and a more dull iridescent JD. I believe mine is the one in the middle, and the cool thing about that is it can get large unlike the EBJD yet still have a good amount of blue and green iridescent. So I do believe selective breeding is involved to an extent with these fish.

My RD's eating habits? Cichlid staple pellots 2-3 times per day and once every few days I feed TetraCichlid Cichlid Crisps. As far as amount... about as much as the fish can eat in 2 minutes, without leaving any uneaten bits (this never happens though ). The trick is water quality. I do 50% waterchanges once per week. I have a lot of filtration and airation also.

oh cool.. mine is on cichlid pellets and gut-load of mealworms now. trying to look for better feed atm. will see how i can improve the filtration. water quality is fine so far.. ammonia-0 nitrite-0 PH-7.5?.. weekly 30% wc on the 4ft tank. cant seem to get a totally clear water bcos of the bogwood. but my biotope aquarium looks better with a bit of stain.. heheh!
