I vote you get what you're going to be happy with and what you plan on being able to keep up with maintenance on. The JD / earth eater might be a good addition. You could also look into a Texas cichlid, they have some great personality.

If you're not after cleaning up the mess the oscar will produce, then I'd look into the JD or Texas. I love SD's so a school of them wouldn't be bad either.
