I've never kept one, so I'll share wisdom from a site that has some good info:

One of them most belligerent cichlids around, you need to know what you’re doing when attempting to keep a midas with anything else, and that includes its own kind. In very large tanks this aggression becomes less of a problem, but by very large we are talking in excess of 1000 litres, which is simply beyond the reach of most hobbyists. In tanks of this size it can be kept with other robust Central American cichlids, large Loricariids and other big catfish. Decent-sized fast swimming fish such as silver sharks, tinfoil barbs and the like are also a possibility.

peacock bass like to be in a school, so that huge tank would be a great place for a school of these guys. Midas, they're loners. Give it it's own tank, and let it rule the roost there.

(at least, that's what I think - with that much space, do what you please. But if you ever need to catch a fish in there, please film it!)

I wouldn't wait too long to get him into that big tank.......even though it's small now, 30GL is a drop in the bucket for a Midas......especially w/ a pleco in there......water quality will deteriorate quckly if you don't do frequent partial WC's.......

Tankmates for a Midas will have to be chosen carefully, & will have to monitored often.....get the biggest tank you possibly can, as these are true "Monsters of the Midway", & can dominate huge tanks.....& my recommendations that I give are for one tankmate, even if you get aa 200GL aquarium.......tank sizes are for adult size fhs, which is the proepr way to stcok calculated w/ tank size.
