scarhbar created the topic: My Green Terror Thread

Hey everyone, I've been super busy the past year with things raging from forest fires, hospital visits, my wedding, and my daughter being born. It's been kind of hard to stick to the hobby religiously (like I should haha), so I sold some of the last of my fish yesterday, and now I'm starting over! I was looking for a single fish to keep by himself, that doesn't get past 10". I thought of an EBJD, but those would be too expensive for our budget :/ So I decided to go with a Green Terror! I love the colors the fish produces, and I love their temperament! Green Terror it is :)

Today I went to my LFS, and saw one itty bitty GT in with a bunch of rambunctious Jewel Cichlids. The poor guy (or gal. I won't know for a while!) had some crazy nipped fins, but he had a scrappy attitude. So I bought him! Here he is:

It's a bad picture, I know, but he's an active guy, so I wasn't expecting anything great! He's only 1.25" now, so he doesn't have much green, but he had some bold looking stripes!
His diet will consist of the following:
-Hikari Bio-Gold,
-Spirulina 20 Flakes,
-Frozen Brine Shrimp with Spirulina,
-New Life Spectrum (whatever size he is at the time),
-some Cherry Shrimp (bred by me) every once in a while
-anything else that you guys suggest! (that actually works)

His tank for now (until he gets a few more inches) will be a 29 gallon planted tank. It's been up and running for quite a few months. I plan on him to rip up some plants :) For now it just provides some nice cover for him. It is really messy, and I don't have any sort of aquascape going on, because of all the fish I had to catch yesterday (damn tetras!). So I just threw the wood back into the tank and it made some cool hiding places :)
Here's the tank!

Yet another crappy picture. I know. The Metal Halide lights make this thing look amber colored haha. Here's another picture of his hiding spots :P He's not too shy

Oh ya! That's his bristlenose buddy. He helps eat most of the food that misses the ground. He also eats any algae pretty well.

Anyways guys, I can't wait to be active on the forum again! I came here a couple years ago, so I hope to see some of you guys I knew before. Can't wait to show this fish getting bigger!

Nice tank, and if your gt grows like mine, you have a lot of time.

Thanks! Ya, the other gt's I've had, have grown really slow! Seems a lot of people had that same thing. But I like it :) my wife also likes the little fish more than the big ones, because they get nunchial humps (or forehead ballsacks as she calls them)

Ya, actually last January :( it was an emergency situation, and I had to get rid of my 75 FAST! But he has a 125 tank all to himself at my lfs, so I can see him often :)

Btw, is the Orc/troll in your avatar from WOW or something similar?

Probably WoW inspired the artist that I borrowed it from.

Not much to update! You guys (and quite rarely gals) can see how small he is. His fins are already looking better!
