The problem with RedTex id is that, being a hybrid, it could be made of different combos. My idea of a true RedTex is a mix of H.Cyanno(Texas) and South American Festae. I have a female version of this. Texas are also crossed with Red Devils, Blood parrots, pretty well any reddish colored cichlid and called Red Texas. Being a Petsmart offering, I wouldnt expect much in the way of purity in the genetics. Petsmart usually has what they call Red Devils, when in fact they are a Midas/RD mix.. Midevil. Should you ever track down a high quality RedTex, be forewarned, they are complete goons, ultra aggressive, and would very likely need their own tank. Mine is the very high end of crazy, the most aggressive fish I have ever owned, lives in her own 120g, and likes it that way.

That's definitely a hybrid of some sort  , but like Suprd71 stated, of what you will never know.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

Red Texas are tricky business. Especially when it comes to Petsmart red texas. Usually Petsmart Red Texas are just low grade flowerhorns. Yours is definitely a hybrid like others have said. Some red texas will begin to develop a more red color as they begin to grow. I have a red texas cichlid myself and he looks more like a midevil with green freckles on the gills and on his fins and I got him at Petsmart.
