Riles52 created the topic: Jack dempsey in corner

Hi I have a jack dempsey and what I thought was a Texas cichlids when I bought it but now is looking more like a mix and kind of like a flower horn. They were getting along fine until one day I woke up and the dempsey is laying in the corner breathing heavy and then would swim to the top and still stay in the same corner and is not eating. This has been going on for 4 days now. Is it being bullied? Or sick? I don't see any marks on it or dots. I have someone that would take the flower horn but I'm hesitant to get rid of it if the dempsey is just sick.

Much more info needed!

What are your water parameters? Ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte?

Tank size, all of the tanks inhabitants, pictures of the tank and fish would help and what is your water change schedule.

Are you sure that the fish is a flowerhorn?

Can you post pictures or a video of your fish? Regardless of whether it's bullying or sick, I'd strongly suggest putting the JD in another tank. If it's sick it could pass something on to your texas/flowerhorn, and if it's being bullied then the texas may have done some pretty serious damage to it to have the JD behave like that.

Sounds like bullying. Tex are mean sob's and FH are just psycho. After 4 days its time for some intervention of some sort. JD can be a tough nut, but generally no match for either of what you may have there.

I may not be the Boss, but I'm ALWAYS right!

I think he'll be fine when he has the tank to himself if that is what's going on.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

If this is suppose to be a serious comment you have no idea what you are talking about. But you are probably just goofing around. Not a great way to start a new profile. :side:
