TOPIC: .5 gallon betta tank

.5 gallon betta tank 1 year, 9 months ago #107801

In case everyone didnt get the news my sister upgraded her .5 betta tank to a whoping 1.5 so now i have the .5 and i was thinking what can i do with this. I was wondering if i can breed snails and sell them on craigslist, also the .5 is not a sure idk exactly what it is i have a two leiter soda bottle and plan to mesure it that way. I was wondering if i can breed mystery snails. They seem easy to breed lower the leviel get enough ration of male to female and let magic happen. So can i breed yello mystery snails with white snails or gray snails and the other way round? or should i breed colar to colar. Thanks everyone for tolerating my random crap

So what you are saying, in essence, is that your sister is a better 'aquarist' than you because her tank isn't overstocked?

lol im a kid trying to make money if possible i will make this as ugly as possible its sure as hell not gona be a show tank, fur god sakes its pink and have hearts all over it. Why would i want that as a show tank. I know i can get good money if i can breed enough of them.

I mesured the tank it holds up to 5 liters

well the commonly sold "mystery snails" are actually apple snails. they can grow to the size of a baseball. not saying they will but they can. i wouldnt recommend trying to breed anything in a tank that size. maybe shrimp if that.

well i have had mystery snails for up to four years and sum live over a year and non of them reached over two inches. Plus they would only be in the breeder tank until they breed which from what ive read isnt it dosent take long for them to breed then id leave the little babys in there and put the parents in the big tank. Then when the little snails get bigger ill sell them to the lfs or to some friends. The snails have a shit load of space in my big tank. So its not like the adults would live in there for two long if they dont breed in a month i would abort the breeding altogother. So how many snails do you think id need to breed?

Re: .5 gallon betta tank 1 year, 9 months ago #107993

technically youd need a male and female. thats it. but you cant tell from the outside what they are. well you can it just takes someone very experienced. i wouldnt put more then 3 snails in a tank that small.i would hesitate with one. simply because their bioload is quite a load. if your going to breed them breed them in your main tank. it also takes the babies forever to grow. overall a useless thing to do in my opinion. especially since your main tank is already overstocked...

like i said i would sell them to my lfs and if i breed them in my main tank i first will never find the babies in the small tank and they will get eatin. second i will have to lower my tank like 5 percent or up to four t five inches. So thats why i wanted to do it in the small tank. I have a filter that does 40 gph as well.

have you already talked to your LFS about taking so many baby snails? try from 100-500 little snails crawling around. you only have to lower your tank water 2-3 inches. and its not hard to find them. put a piece of zuchinni or lettuce in the bottom and they will congregate on it. plus your fish will eat some so its less work overall. still dont see why you would want to breed them. youd be lucky to get a quarter for each snail.
