cool and interresting creatures.
I studied them quite a lot, for i was getting ready to buy some, before the MTS hit me.
Because of their permanent larval stage, they will regenerate any arms, legs and gills, if one of these were bitten off...
And that's quite remarkable, imo.
What colour axolotl are you gonna get?
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

not sure yet but maybe albino or black
but it all depends on what the LFS has in stock
that is very cool how that happens but good if and when breeding

Axies are great fun, you need to either feed them by hand or tweezers because they are pretty vision limited and their food will just rot otherwise. Mine eats frozen beef heart (better to keep hold of) or partially thawed bloodworms. With Axies the colder the water the better and make sure whatever filter you use does not have a strong flow...and forget about raging bubbles...they hate flowing water. Beware that they eat gravel so you either have to give them something that is small enough to pass through them easily (like sand) or big enough that they cannot get it in their mouths. Mine is in a 2 foot tank and I keep half the tank floor clear and that is the feeding area so I can get anything he does not eat or vomits...and half has sand and lots of plants so he can hide. Get one that is nice and fat, with healthy looking skin and big healthy gills (the feathery stuff around his head) Beware of those that have patchy skin and very curved tails right at the end (like a hook at the end)..hooked tails are a sign of strss. They have great personalities and are fantastic! You will have so much fun!!!!

The gold ones are nice too, but I like the albinos. Unlike Oscars they are really easy to sex so if you want to breed them it is not too hard and there is heaps available on the net.

They have distinct personalities (a bit like Oscars..plenty of attitude, smartarse smiles) so get one that "speaks" to you...let it choose you..I think you got the gist of it...have fun and let me know if I can help...I just had to nurse one and there are bizarre things you do with them...like put them in the fridge for a week!!!!!!!!!Hopefully you won't have to do that though.....Shazzzzzzzzzzzz

If they are fighting illness, parasites, bacteria or whatever...especially if they are off their food, it is recommended to "fridge" them. Making them colder (the temperature needs above 5 degrees ) actually aids their recovery and alows them to go longer without food. See this link

fridging

But the best site to look at is this one...particularly the health page because it tells you which things to use and which things that you would use on fish that are lethal for axies...it is fantastic.
