seeing that rtc can grow to anywhere from 5+ feet in length i would recommend a 1500-3000 gallon pond to properly house one of those bad boys........
i totally aggree, it's a no go fish for home aquariums, nce they reach their full potential .
I wanted a RTC very much, but upon investigating them, i wanted one even more.
But then i saw a full grown specimen at the Zoo nearby my home.
it was in this tank and i can tell you it's a massive tank, allright.
I spent quite some time in front of that tank, and eventually i saw the rtc go crazy for a bit, bashing against the interior of the tank and acting like a dolphin.
And he made the massive tank look very ,very small in that same instance...
i looked at that behaviour, and at the same moment i just knew , that this fish was too big for me and any of my future tanks.
And i was sad for quite some time, for i really had my heart set on one of these guys.
@ necro; How's your TSN doing at the moment?
got any updates for us???

getting bigger by the day.....
hes pushing 18 inches now and is starting to eat me out of house and home. im going to be building a replacement tank for my 220 soon, probably something in the 275-300 gallon range, to house him in until he hits the 30 inch mark.
ill post some new pics of him for when i get home from work and you can see how hes growing for yourself...........
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!
my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

that's incredible...but i believe you.
is he getting less shy?
last time you were feeding him with a stick, i remember.
and i'm still jealous.
@joshua: "807 gallons" and "custom" in one sentence seems a little odd.
An 800gl wouldt hold him for some time.
But i saw one at the LFS, in a 3' bowfront tank, that grew upto 2 feet within half a year.
But no one bought him,he was given no decent living room and he eventually died.
They won't stop growing and have a far greater growthrate than oscars.
If i ever get an indoor pond, either RTC or TSN would be my choice of "pet-fish".
but until that time, i won't get into them.

I agree noddy. I think those Red Tail Catfish are awesome. I would love to have one some day. BUt they are just too big. I saw the guy from RiverMonsters catch one several months back and it weighed like 300 pounds i think. I wish there was a smaller version of the same fish. i just really dig there movement, colors, and the way they eat.
The one in the vid is supposedly a cross between a Red Tail Catfish and a Tiger Shovelnose Catfish. I think they mention on the info that it is a natural wild caught mix. (but who knows) . cool behaivor either way.
@Necro, I didn't know you had a tiger shovelnose catfish. I would love to see a video of your cat.
