I have two monsterious plecos in a 15 gallon with 1 year, 8 months ago #113114

I have two 7 inch plecos in a 15 gallon. i rescued them from this horrible family that were going to throw them in some lake in colorado. (its like 50 degress at night here). So i took them and put them into my 15 gallon with 2 baby oscars. (dont comment that the oscars are in a 15 gallon or that their gonna need a bigger tank, I am getting a 120 gallon when i get the money). Anyway, i was wondering if they would die in such tight quarters. The plecos can still move with ease, but they take up a large portaion of the tanks space. Should i do more water changes??? get a bigger filter? i just want them to live as comfortably as they can for the time being. Any tips??

I don't see any harm for a couple of days but the nitrate levels will be uncontrollable...
You need to re home the plecos as soon as possible or locate them to a different tank.
Not to mention your current situation with two Oscars in a 15 gallon..

7 inches is certainly not as big as they can get so hopefully you will find someone to take them, if they were absolutely monstrous like I have seen them, you may be hard-pressed to find someone who would want them. Staffie, is correct, a wedding be very long before your water quality turns to crap at the Oscars will not be able to tolerate that for very long. Plecs are very tolerant fish and can live out of water for a long , they sometimes live in really dirty and dismal conditions.

When do you think youre gonna be able to get that 120 gallon? Props for good intentions, but I really think you need to get this arraignment changed asap or you risk putting all the fish in jeopardy.

You also gotta be careful with the baby oscars and really large plecs...they can and will take very small fish on occasion if the size differential is large enough and the opportunity presents itself. Not their normal diet of course, and generally they are not aggressive, but they are fish, and fish are 'opportunists' in every sense of the word. And in that tiny tank there's not much room for the oscars to 'get out of harm's way' should one of the plec's decide to 'have a go' at one of them. It's a quandary b/c you gotta keep them well fed but the nitrates are gonna get out of control quick...like...the time it took you to read this quick...

How big are the oscar's right now?

ya i would get another filter one where the magority of the filter is hanging outside the tank to maximize room.
