I was doing a waterchange on dimmy's comm tank this week when i noticed the sturisoma pleco not showing up.
This was odd, for he usually is moving through the tank during maintenance.
We looked everywhere, and since the tank is sealed of completely, with no possible escape routes, we feared the worst.
After some time i saw something that looked like a piece of tail inside a deep crevice in the driftwood.
I got some pliers and had to pull real hard to get what were the remains of what once was our pleco out.
Here's some pics, in dedication to Dimmy's pleco and to show you which one we are talking about:
As this was a pleco, with distinct features of a sturgeon, it turned out they have the same disability as a sturgeon, namely THEY CANNOT SWIM BACKWARDS!
Mind you the fish had been in the tank with the same piece of driftwood for several years now, and it never led to any trouble.
But it seems like a warning is in place here.
If you are keeping a Sturisoma, please take care there's no way the fish can swim into
any narrow spaces, for it may cost them their lives...
And again i learned something, and again it was the hard way.
