alright, i got a bit of a problem here and im hoping it goes well. i have a bunch of jd babies about 1.5-2 inches in a 55 gallon tank. i found homes and given alot away already and the rest of them i am growing so they can be added to the multiple tanks they are going to. i have, id say about 70 left. i know im overstocked at this point, but my water conditions are perfect, they get along, and the tank looks great.

now here lies the problem. the tank is very old and i was losing my trust in it, so i picked up a 75 gallon tank awhile ago but never set it up. today i noticed water squirting out the corner at a pin sized hole. the whole was dead in the middle and i clamped the glass, and it sealed. so now i need to set up that tank, because i have lost all trust in this one and theres an ugly clamp holding it together. since i filled up all my spare space in the basement with tanks, the new tank needs to go where the leaking one is(and thats why i never set the bigger one up) i cant add them to any of my other tanks, because theyd be dinner. so pretty much i have to take down the old one, setup the new one and add the fish back in all in the same day. fun.

im hoping all goes well, im using the filters, gravel, decor, and even water, so water levels sound be good. if anyone has any advice, comments, anything, feel free to ask.

you might try a divider in one of your larger tanks and put the babies in there(if there is enough room). if not dont forget to put a heater and airstone in the buckets with the youngsters while your swapping the tanks.

good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

hmm. i could try a divider in my one tank. its a 125 with only the father in it, but i havent had much luck with dividers. even when they seem impossible to get by, i always have problems with fish getting to the wrong side especially babies. if i have serious problems with the old tank, that'll be my last resort. im not 100% ready yet, i still need to get a stand for the 75 (and im broke) haha. i think im gonna try to take down the swap all at once. i figured ill have the fish out and back into a tank in 20 mins or so. thanks for the heads up with the heater and airstone. i completely forgot.

alright so i finally got around to doing the switch. with the holidays, and finals and all, i havent had much time. the leaking tank did hold out for about a month, and i gave it to my brothers friend for his snake.

i got the fish out of the tank, and into the other with filtration in about 30 mins.from there i brought the gravel and all that fun stuff. it took me about 3 hours in total moving stuff around.

i think i made out well, the babies seem to really like the new tank. its a lot longer since the old one was a tall. so they have more swimming room. as usual, they are all currently bunched up on the side of the tank next to the computer begging me for food. the waters still a bit cloudy, as i just finished moving everything around. i got 2 filters from the old tank, gravel, all rocks and decor, and water from the other tank, so i think my water levels will stay good.

besides all the babies is a pleco. i did some research and picked up one that maxed out at 6". i picked up some algae wafers, hes not happy with a lack of algea on the glass. hes been searching for awhile now haha. but he'll find some on the rocks he hasnt gotten to yet.
