A 10 gallon tank is big enough for a few small community fish such as Tetras, guppies etc. The fish you have mentioned really need something bigger, preferably 30 gallons upwards as they are normally kept in groups.

maybe you could concider dwarf cichlids as they would be ok in a 10gal a few plants and no rocks as not to displace any water and you should be fine the dwarfs come in many different species and subspecies and have many many beautiful colours:)

Dwarf cichlids are an option. However, even the smallest of these reach 2 inches so you would only be able to have a few. Even though you will only be able to keep a few fish, if you put some nice white sand with some rock, it could look really stunning.

But remember a 10 gallon tank is going to need quite a bit of maintenance even though you will only have a few fish.

Going back to what I said originally, if it is just your girlfriend looking after the fish, she may be better off with some hardy community fish rather than specialising in Africans. You could always upgrade in the future.

i concur with ofl.... if YOU were looking after it fair enough but ofl,s option is much better for a novice fish keeper
