hi

just gonna get 2 blue acara, 4 cm each in size. will they be ok in a community tank with tetras, guppies , gourami, red tailed shark and bristlenose catfish?

I have got two blue acara and they are bullies towards some of the fish. I think you'll find they will eat the smaller fish when big enough given the chance.

i agree with ofl. i also have acaras and they bully and chase my firemouths around the tank. the only ones they dont bother are the oscars who are substancially(sp?) bigger than they are.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

thanks for the replies guys. ill prolly keep them with the yabbies then.

how bout in a tank with bristle nose kittens? the acara are only about 4cm long.. the kittens about 2cm. any thoughts?

Bristlenose catfish cannot defend themselves adequately against predators. Blue acrara reach around 8 inches and have got fairly large mouths. Even if they can eat the catfish, they will probably kill it. I made the mistake of putting two 4 inch cats in with my Oscars and they were eaten within minutes. bristle catfish grow much slower than blue acrara say even if you put them in at the same size, they could become a potential meal in the future.
