I assume you just want silver dollars and a few other fish other than Oscars? Anyway, you wouldn't have enough room for an Oscar.

Silver dollars are primarily vegetarians so you could go for a mixture of nice colourful community fish such as tetras, guppies, other small fish from South America, I'm not really up to date on the smaller community fish so other people may chime in. Remember that 55 gallons isn't a lot, personally, I think it would look a lot nicer with more smaller fish, rather than three larger fish. At the end of the day, a 55 gallon tank is really meant for community fish.

I have a 10" O in the 55gal now, I just feel like he deserves better. I have found someone with a 240gal changing over from salt to fresh. and he has a 12" O. He will probably take my fish puppy. I know he doesn't have enough room with me. Tiger's have minds and they know who cares for them. I can see it in his eyes, his life is so much better this last 3 months that I have had him. I do have my Tetra tank with a mix of tetra skoals. I was thinking to add some flat round river rocks stack them use alot of plants..

if your not going to keep an oscar in your 55 you might consider an african setup. also if you really want to keep the sd's you could try a salvini or a female jack dempsey, couple of firemouths or even convicts

just a thought

I love that Idea. I can put the Tetras back in their Hex tank~(the pic with the SD is the hex tank) Tetras were very happy in that tank. any suggestions for info on choices? I have a good filter and established substrate.

well personally if i had an empty 55 i would go with a female salvini, a female jack dempsey, and either a couple of female firemouths or females convicts depending on the colours of the cons. you should go all female to lessen the aggression level and then there is no chance of breeding.

if your preference is towards africans you could go with yellow labs, demasonis, and zebras but in that case i would change the substrate to sand. you wont lose any benefical bacteria from changing the subsrtate(theoretically you will but the sub only holds a minute amount in it) .

if you want to keep the sd's as well i would forgo the firemouths or cons and just go with the sal and the female jd.

just my opinion
