two days ago i bought a spotted synodontis catfish to eventually go in with my oscars. it was only about 2.5 inches long so i put it in the 36 gallon community tank to grow some. but now i can't find it anywhere! not in the tank, not even in the room!
can these fish jump?
the tank is covered and i can't see where it would get out, but he is no where to found!
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

It's amazing how small fish can hide. I bought a couple of very small clown Loach back in 2006 and we couldn't find them anywhere one day, I took everything out of the tank and they still weren't there. I actually had a fake piece of root in the tank, made of some kind of plastic stuff. Anyway, there was a tiny hole in this fake root and the Loach were managing to squeeze through so they were inside it. So when I actually took everything out of the tank, they were still inside this root it's amazing they didn't die.

So my advice to anyone who has got small fish that have gone missing, look in places that don't seem obvious, the chances are, they've squeezed in somewhere to hide.

they won't unless they are exposed to hot air for so long. the inner part of the root serves as hibernating place.

unless you have bigger tank mate where they could fit-in to the mouth as what happen to one of my beautiful yellow pin size oscar.
