So i have this peacock hybrid.

Ive had him for about 6 months now. he is in a 20 gallon long. he shares it with a catfish.
over the last month or so he has become very shy. im guessing its because he is basically the only one in the tank. the catfish hides all day. the cichlid will be out, ill enter the room and he will fly into his cave. he wont even eat if im in the room anymore.
i was thinking of adding some dithers. i was thinking a few larger tetras but after this last fiasco with the emperor tetras im pretty hesitant to purchase tetras if im not buying a really large group of them. and i dont have too much room to work with...
im not really willing to rehome him. he doesnt move around too fast so i dont think he will do well in a cichlid community. and most local fishkeepers i know, i dont trust or dont keep africans.

any ideas?

considering that Africans are used to a busy freeway, I would try giant danios or rosy barbs. I haven't heard of them dying off like tetras or tiger barbs.
