OFL created the topic: Feeding your fish when you are on vacation

I'm going to write an article on how you can feed your fish went on vacation, I'm looking for some inputs and ideas from people who may have found ingenious ways of feeding their fish. I'll probably have a look on the Internet and see if there are any suitable automatic feeding stations that are capable of distributing Oscar fish food into a tank. But if you do have some good ideas that let me know and I will include it in the article

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

I would include that the fish will be fine for not eating for 7 days if they over 2". If on a 2 week vacation, any fish over 5" will be fine without eating. For 3 weeks, the fish should be over 7". Also add information to either hide the fish food from house sitters, or use a pill container with the appropriate amount of food for the house sitter to use.

i personally don't like automatic feeding if your not going to be able to clean the tank for a week or two adding food is just going to dirty the tank but that's just my two cents

Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead focus on what to do next

I just got home from a week's vacation in Ireland, the wife's feeding direction were as such DON'T FEED THE FISH while I'm away. All fish are alive and accounted for.

I have a reef tank in my office and I never feed my clownfish on weekends. If I am away from the office longer than about 3 days, I will usually ask a trusted co-worker to feed them for me.

When I went on vacation for about a week, I installed an automatic feeder for my Oscar. He would probably have been OK without eating for the week, but I left the auto feeder installed after I got back. You see, Oscars are really like dogs and have that same pathetic look when they think you will feed them. My Oscar has even trained the other parrot chiclid to have the same look!

My fish have me very well trained :) and it is real easy to over feed them, By using the auto feeder, I can control their feedings better.
