I was cleaning my filters today and noticed very small black "tadpole" like bugs or whatever they are. Is this natural and should I have any concerns? Thanks

Please take a video if possible for ID purposes.

My tank has only been up for a few months. It wasn't much of a cleaning because it looked clean. More of a check up. I only seen one. It was really small and appeared to be moving in short movements. I may be crazy, maybe it was poo. It's gone now though.

Since we're on the topic, how often should they be cleaned. I have two fluval 406's on a 110 gallon. I've been checking the filters once a month. And it has one juvenile tiger oscar, and 6 giant danios.

I have an FX5 on my 125 oscar tank. The first couple times I opened it at 3 months. The next couple times I opened it at 6 months. This time it's been almost 10 months now. Every time I opened it before it wasn't very dirty, so I'm curious to see this time what it will look like.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

It's possible your seeing "Planeria" (spelling) it's usually brought on by over feeding , it's non parasitic but it's a pain to get rid off. I only ever heard off it being white not black.

Could be danio fry, giant danios are fairly easy to spawn and fry could live in a filter feeding off the detritus

I was gonna say danio fry as well.... same thing happened to me. I used a bunch of danios to cycle my tanks and the first time I opened the 2217 I found the fry

So if it's fry I'll eventually have baby fish in my filter? Lol
