Ok...he's in the tank. He seems to be doing alright. I'm still working on the landscape, watching how he moves about. The tank is about half full with water. It's pretty cool to watch.

I'm so hoping he will eat. I just sent hubby to the store for food.

I still need a heat lamp..but the water is warm.

It's ok about it not being a fish tank later on...it is a cl tank. :)

I had four at one point. They are great fun to watch but they do try and escape.

He is very mobile! Much more clever at moving than I had thought a turtle could be. I can see how he could easily escape.

Finally got him to eat crickets.

He is growing on me :)

I'm trying to figure out how old he is. He's about 6-7 inches and that (I think) is the size of an adult male. So not a baby, maybe a sub adult.

Wow him clinging to the rock makes him look so much smaller. It's amazing how quickly our animals grow on us...one minute we're all oh no not another animal next minute it's Awe I want another one :-)

Having kept water turtles in the past & owning 2 box turtles now, I disagree w/ this statement:

red eared sliders need more swimming areas than dry land

True they are semi-aquatic turtles, spending a good portion in water but sliders do need to be able to get to a basking area to dry out, otherwise they will get shell rot, which can be fatal. I would only fill it up 1/2 way & put something in there that floats so they can bask under a strong light.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.
