Poseidon2.0 created the topic: Cichlid(s) for 37 tall

I have a 37 tall community tank that I am getting kind of bored of. Any ideas of what I might put in that, cichlid-wise? Not interested in Angel fish. Would a pair of saijikas work, or is that too tight a footprint (30 inches x 13 inches)?

Tough tank for cichlids! I love the tall show tanks but hard to fit much except angel fish or maybe festivum. You are basically just dealing with a 20L footprint which I know people will breed convicts in but not ideal for a breeding pair with the male being able to get to 5". The footprint of a 33L would be better.... Ever consider a non cichlid? Though not super active lurker type puffers do not require a lot of footprint and that has enough water volume to work.

Yeah, I kind of figured that was the case. Puffer is an interesting thought. My other choice might be to get a longer tank for the same spot, might be able to fit 36-40 inch tank there.

A 36x18 breeder footprint will give you some more options. While not that much bigger, the surface area and footprint would allow for you to possibly do a pair of small cichlids.

The 40B is one of the tanks Petco puts on sale when they do the $1 per gallon sale.
Petsmart has a 65g set up that is $279 right now with 20% off if you buy online and pick up in store: www.petsmart.com/fish/aquariums-stands/aqueon-65-gallon-aqua...00013?var_id=36-16714&_t=pfm%3Dcategory%26pfmvalue%3Dfaceted

If you really are stuck at a 30" length but can go wider there is a 56 gallon with a 30 x 18 footprint: www.petsmart.com/fish/aquariums-stands/marineland-56-gallon-...00013?var_id=36-17294&_t=pfm%3Dcategory%26pfmvalue%3Dfaceted

 So I have you buying a new tank now.

The 37H would work nice with a solo male and maybe some type of tetra school.
