Ummmmm...I'm not a great lover of snails. Normally, once you've got them, you can't get rid of them. Exactly what do they look like? If we're talking about the big apple snails then they are okay because they are very big so you normally know where you are with them. However, if you ever get infested with Malaysian trumpet snails, they can be a pain in the rectum to get rid of.

there are other option to check out for something that will help with algea.
even though the common or sailfin pleco does grow to massive size there are other types that dont get as big like the bristle nose and rubber lip pleco. also there are chinese or siamese algea eaters which can help in the reduction of algea in your tank.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

I agree 100% with these guys, I bought a nice 55 gallon from a lady here and all the fish were included. I had this tank set up for 6 months with no problem... NOW I have snails EVERYWHERE... I had moved decorations around so now they are in all my tanks. And I can't get rid of them.

Don't do it!

I went as far as breaking my tank down and taking it outside to clean out with the hose and I cleaned all the rocks clear of snails. and now I still have a few that come out now and then...although there seems to be a lot less of them now. I think Spike is having himself some late night snacks lol

I do have one large snail and Spike torments the crap out of him... constantly picking him up and throwing him all over the place...It's kind of fun to watch as twisted as that sounds
