ok im at my witts end with my planted fish tank, I have a 55 gal fish tank that is getting infested with snails i spend night after night at least once a week gathering these fools in my tank, i feel after pulling my drift wood out night after night and im not liking that idea since well it stirs up my gravel over and over. I have two clown loaches that are not doing a thing i keep the drift wood since they love it other wise i could not catch them any way i can get my clowns to love the taste of snails cause well i am getting upset since my plants are getting punished by these guys
I have lost my mind be back when I find it, maybe.

Looks like you've been infested with Malaysian Trumpet Snails.

The species of snail are live bearers which basically means you only need one to start a colony. They only normally come out at night and during the day live in the substrate. It is believed that if you see lots of them during the day, your water conditions are not so good. However, I haven't got concrete proof of this.

I did get an infestation myself a few years ago. These particular type of snails are very resilient and not many fish are able access their shells to eat them, including Clown Loach. I had CL and they were not able to eat the trumpets either.

Unfortunately about the only way to get rid of them is to completely clean the tank out including filtration. However, you only have to leave one and the whole process will start over again.

figures im just more upset than normal since while cleaning them off i stepped on the tank lid and broke it ugh i guess ill just break down and buy a snail trap and just live with it i guess but i can say the big ones hide all the time i find them vary rarely

we have plenty of them in our swamps but hopefully, they will
be reduced tremendously after the recent flooding. they are edible
and taste better than the normal escargot. go ahead and let them
multiply and when they reach 1 inch long, cook them with coconut milk....
yum yum yum

That only helps you gain some craftsmanship in cutting glass!
Several months ago i broke glassplates 3 weeks in a row, but now I've gotten pretty good in cutting glass.
Wasn't so pleased at the moment.
I try to get as many snails as possible for my Puffer, but your snails are too hard-shelled for Pufferfish, they'll break their beaks on these ones...
And I surely don't want them in my big tank!

ummmmm paul i have left my wild drunken nights in the navy behind me the days of eating gerbal rat and dog is over and thank god but leaving them in the tank is not good cause they are eating the leaves of my plants i have in there but its a thought right now i send them to my breeder cage then to my buddy's house where the name of the fish eats them which unfortunately is too big for my tank lol other wise i would have it in my tank.

Clown loach cant eat trumpet snails, the shell is too hard. Try crushing one with your fingers!

You can treat the tank with snail away. You add the dose and within minutes you will see them start to drop. Re-treat a week later to make sure you got them all. Im not sure but I think the medication knocks out your filter bacteria so you need to remove the filter or have a spare one to put on your tank once you have removed the meds (use carbon). The other problem is that all the decomposing snails can make your water quality poor so remove as many dead snails as possible and also do daily water tests and water changes

one of the last times we had an ick problem here, we used some copper sulfate, and it killed the ick, and all my snails too. i think malachite green will kill them as well.

Be very careful when using malachite green because it is toxic to both humans, and some fish, including loach I believe
