I'm setting up a 135gl within the next couple days, and I'd like to get more fish for it other than the two I have. I've got a 6" Lemon Oscar and a 3" EB Jack Dempsey that are the automatic inhabitants. I was thinking of getting a Peacock Eel (that's what the kids want) and some people have suggested I get SD's, but I really don't like them. They may keep the Oscar's attention away from the poor EBJD - but they're boring. Someone also suggested Severums but I'd rather have something a bit more colorful and interesting. Hence the eel. (Maybe not super colorful, but definitely interesting. lol)

So does anyone have any other suggestions?

you could try something like a sal and a mota along with your oscar and jack. both are colourful and have more than enough personality. another thought might be a texas cichlid. they also make for great wet pets.

just a couple of ideas

if you like SD's but think they lack colour what about Discus. they come in amazing colours and can look fantastic in a small group.

I like Discus, but are they gonna be able to hold their own in an Oscar tank? My mother had a Discus tank when I was growing up and I always remember them to be kind of a dainty, fragile, picky kind of fish....

A bala shark would be an ok tank mate. They do grow pretty large.

What about a school of clown loaches? Or maybe a green terror or two? I personally would go with the loaches. Good color and great personality. Plus they are pretty good at cleaning up the oscars scrap food that may fall to the bottom.

I've got a gold red spotted Severum and they don't come more colorful than these guys. Jurupari are delightful fish that have really nice coloration. I happen to really like silver dollars, they give some nice movement to the tank, I certainly wouldn't describe them as boring. But each to their own I suppose

I didn't so much mean that the fish were boring. I know they're quite active and entertaining; and I like watching a school of SDs. But I just wanted something with a bit more color.

Here's my tank - it's a total blank slate and I'm so excited!!

All cleaned up and filled with water!
