TOPIC: Expanding an aquarium

Expanding an aquarium 2 years, 5 months ago #65651

Has anyone ever tried to make their tanks bigger? I was thinking that it would be cool to take the ends off my 125 and make it 2ft wide instead of 1.5ft (or maybe 27 inches) This would add either 40 gallons (2') or 60 gallons (27"). I think it would be cheaper to do that instead of buying a new, bigger tank.

I wouldnt think that the effort would be worth it.

Remember you would have to buy:

- new base glass
- new lids / supports for the top
- new side pieces of glass

You will also have to modify your stand.

By that stage you have pretty much replaced the entire tank (and still havent counted the effort of actually siliconing the tanks correctly etc.

Just buy a bigger one... they are cheap.
New to the whole Oscars thing..
Setup:
4' x 2' x 2' Tank with 100L Sump filtration

you missed one important pointer Goob_Scooper, it is no joke applying sealant to a totally detached aquarium glass panel....

yeah, i doesn't worth the effort. better re-sell the existing and add some bucks to get a new one,,, or the other way around, buy a new bigger unit and re-sell the old unit

Spoken like a true MTS sufferer.
Once you get a bigger tank, you'll find another use for the one you got.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
