hey matey.

thought id reply in here rather than private message.

persoanlly best thing you can do in my opinion is try and seal off your filter so yr eel cant get inside.

in regards to feeding, with the eel being nocternal you really should be feeding it last thing at night before you go to bed. maybe turn all the lights off so it feels secure and see if it feeds then. if your not in the position where you can do this just keep feeding last thing at night in the hope it is actually feeding. chances are it is but your just not seeing it as its happening when noone is around.

just keep your fingers crossed your oscar doesnt get hungry for eel!

is it an overflow box??? top it with this stuff. i put it on my 8 foot tank so my snails cant get into them.
its lighting grid.

on my tank the glass is within 1/8th inch of the top of those. thus barring anything larger than the holes

I think i know what kind of filter you have.
I think that the only way to make sure your eel does not get in there is replacing it with a canister...
Although if i'm right the eel is never at risk, for the motor is in the bottom of the filter and the eel will only touch the filtermedia on top.
I guess he thinks it a safe place if he goes there by himself and is not sucked in.
Big chance he'll come out at night only when you don't see him.
I just hate fish that allways hide.
I got one very fancy, very rare and very expensive pleco that has been hiding for allmost 2,5 years now.Rehomed it to another tank, it hides again.
Still it's best to provide you eel with a good place to hide.
If it's the kind of filter that i think, isn't it possible to "Overfill" the filter with media, so the eel cannot get in there?

so the solution? make it hide in plain sight.

put a flat piece of slat angled at the front glass. it will hide in that "cave". the only difference is now you can see it plainly up front, thru the front glass, rather than having to peek into the hole. most elongate fish like tubes to hide in. put the tube up front so it puts itself on display and feels secure at the same time. "tada!"

Agreed, most of my pleco caves are close to any front windows.
They think they are hiding, but i see them...lol
