Hi...I got a free 20 gallon tank today...has a small crack in it but was going to silicone in a new piece of glass to hopefully seal the crack.

I was thinking of breeding glass/ghost shrimp in it for Oscar "treats" when they get a little bigger. Is a 20 gallon sufficient for that? Also can anyone point me to a good site on breeding them or give me any help if you have experience breeding them?

Thanks!

again, this some idea that is not practical. raising grass/ghost/glass shrimp
for oscar's food is not practical and it will take time before you can get
benefit out of it. hatching will take 30 to 60 days depending on location,
and it would take 8 weeks before a fry could reach a 1 inch mark.

again, i would suggest that use the tank as your quarantine tank and buy
stock accordingly for immediate treat once quarantined.

hmmm...yeah that may take awhile to breed them to where I could feed from them. The only reason I was looking into it was I figured it would be a good treat for them and at least some live food that would be good for them. They cost about $1 per shrimp so I thought breeder them would be much cheaper...otherwise those turn into expensive oscar meals! haha!

BTW...anything else that breeds a little quicker and would make decent live food for oscars?

if you have an open space at the backyard, an open pond would do. a small
swamp with plenty of grass and a little running water would do the trick.
plus all crawling insect the wet swamp would invite will be a good treat
to your o. just an idea for you to consider.

I can't make a pond right now because we are renting and the landlord doesn't want a pond in the backyard! haha! Plus with how cold it is now that wouldn't be an option anyway

Any other feeders that would be worth breeding that I may not be thinking of?

i just remove my pail at the garden where i can get a lot of earthworms. but
i'm gonna put it back in a few days. all you need is some soil, dry leaves, and
all vegetable trimmings. a dose of water and 5 days later, you can get plenty
under it. safe and easy....

btw, look at my live grass shrimp that cost me 21 cents. (one bowl)

average of 1.5 inches; 10 pesos for 1 cup (200 grams)
thus, it will cost me 50 pesos per kilo
or 1 USDollar
