Just assuming that everyone here likes keeping or breeding fish, so I ask you this...

What makes YOU enjoy it? What makes you want to do it?

I'd have to say it's the fun of seeing the fish exploring the tank...

Seeing the fish explore also the feeding of live foods watching them grow knowing that your doing a good job. Looking after all the water parameters making sure that ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are in a stable condition. Keeping up with regular water changes. Its to me one of the most enjoyable and relaxing things to do. I just cant get enough of it im addicted to fish keeping and cant wait to get some big tanks happening, and start really exploring fish keeping to the fullest.

Woldog is spot on.
I guess in my case it's pure fascination of looking into a world, where i myself couldn't survive.
Everytime i see a pond, river or lake i try to spot the fish that are in there.
I can only wonder about what's under the waterline.
At home i get a prime time seat and get lost in my fishes underwaterworld.
I love those endless observations most.
Plus the fact that the best fish interact with me.
I mean not only beg for food, but seem to recognize me.
Plus of course the handfeeding!
I don't mind if it's Guppies, Panchax, Carp, Oscar or Gar, getting a fish to trust you so much to be handfed, is really the bomb for me.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

i am just trying to grow a decent sized meal.

No i love watching them, so graceful. I don't need to walk my fish or pick poo off the lawn well I do cos I have a cat and dog too  I like caring and learning about them. I would rather own a silver back gorilla but its to large but truly fascinating

I've always enjoyed watching fish. Even when I was young I could set in front of a tank for hours. Some how I seem to just get lost in the moment so to speak.
Its nice to come home from a stressful day at work and get lost in the moment.

Noddy hit it on the head for me.

the only other thing I can add is the feeling of taking the best care of something that you possibly can - knowing you're making their life the best it can be; even if it's just a fish

I get the same feeling, 100% times over from my dogs

I hit the submit button too soon....

other great things about keeping fish:

-they won't come home with some unsavory character
-they won't wreck your car
-they won't talk back to you
-you don't have to save money for college
-they won't ask you to buy some ungodly expensive tennis shoes

Since I was a little kid, I have always loved fish. To me, they are just calming/relaxing to watch. And there is such a variety of species, colors & shapes.

I will admit that I got way out of control a few years ago.. I had something like, 15 tanks going at once, and I got a bit overwhelmed. But since cutting back to just 2 tanks, I enjoy the hobby again
If you wait for things to happen, they never will.

I feel about my fish, like I feel about my houseplants. It's weird I know, but I love them. They're a challenge, and it's really rewarding to see my hard work pay off. If I wasn't so damn lazy and broke I'd probably be a farmer! LOL My houseplants are a source of pride and joy for me, because when my mother comes over she's pissed that I have one hell of a green thumb, and she kills grass. My fish are a source of pride and joy because when friends come over, they're amazed at how big my fish are, and how much personality a fish has. Plus the peacefulness and tranquility you feel when watching your fish is amazing.
