Recently I changed my tank from large gravel to sand...some really interesting changes from what I've noticed are:
1. My Oscar loves to gulp and spit the sand. He also seems to enjoy uprooting the plants much more.
More importantly,
2. My pleco has started WALKING, yes, WALKING (instead of gliding) on his 4 lateral fins to find food along the bottom. It's really funny as hell and cool to see him do this. He looks like a mudskipper. Anyone else experience this?

i have seen one when i was still keeping them... but wait till you see
how plecs stays in one place, wiggling hards throwing all sands around..
when it stop doing that, you will see craters of sands in the tank.

Not with the sand, but my Plecos do "walk" from time to time.
My pleco supplier allready told me that they did that when i got my bunch.
Mine move sideways, though.
Do yours?

Not sideways yet...but the walking on fins is really excellent to watch. I've only introduced the sand this week although i am loving it. Looks great...and they seem to take to it very well. It's much easier to clean once you get the hang of it and it makes a huge difference aesthetically (at least for me it does).

I made him a cave surrounded by driftwood and he's already dug down deep behind it...made a nice little dugout for himself. i put the airbar below it so he can rest in the bubbles while still underneath. He loves the current. I've heard of walking catfish but when I saw him from across the room I wasn't sure what the hell it was...used to him just gliding and settling on food. Hid behind my couch for a bit to watch him (he tends to scoot back under the driftwood when I appear)...but my O gave him a tail nip and he went back anyways.

lol, they are used to moving like that over land, if their ponds in their natural habitat dry up.
The walking trick combined with the possibility to breath air is a perfect combination for survival.
Those fish never cease to amaze me.

Im going to put on my night lights, set up my digi cam tripod, and drop a few algae wafers further away from his hideout.
Until I get a vid of it it kinda looks like this sounds...if you get my meaning...LOL Had to post this vid because it reminds me of WIN, anyways...(he's kinda all of our little sugar plum fairy)

Can't wait!
I got one very rare Xingu oligancistrus, F0, but he's been hiding for several years now.
I only spotted him out in the open maybe twice.
But at least he's got a cave i can look into nowadays!
