No no no! I'm not talking about measuring your fish from nose to wrist of tail, etc.
I'm asking 'how do you do it'. For example, you got an oscar, and you wanna measure how long it is. What do you do? Net it out, put a ruller beside it and measure ( )? I've had this question a long time.

Thanx, in advance.

the most accurate way to measure your fish is when it is out of the water but this is quite stressfull for the fish. some people place a cloth measuring tape like tailors use on the front of the tank and when the fish swims by it take a pic of it. this will give you a rough idea how big your fish is and not stress the fish.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

I am with Tony, i pull out a measure tap to the length I think is as close to the fish inside the tank and guess. its not pin point but that don't bother me. its close to within a cm or so.

I measured mine while they were being moved, so they were out of the tank, on a damp cloth, with a tape measure.

my easiest fish to measure is my gar, for he will rest with his side to the front window and his nose pressed against the sidewindow.
My pleco is measured by comparing his lenght to the zuchinni he eats.
But both ways will not work with my o.
But i will be happy with an estimated lenght for i do never catch my fish if it's not stricktly nescesary.
My fish trust me enough to eat out of my hand and i don't want to spoil that.

I don't think Paul's tilapia trusts him anymore.....

he stressed most of my oscars and leave marks with the pangs, thus, was grilled
the same day i measured it

A quick question, and we ended up laughing out loud a lot! You guyz are so funny, and Paul, I thought for a sec that the fish you measured was alive. Hey, you didn't eat the oscar, did you?
