has anybody kept Datnoids? more particurally the Silver Datnoid, a brackish fish. im thinking it might be a nice tankmate for the puffers when they are grown.

don't have them, but i know them
So i know you better start saving!
mind you they grow slow and will need to be sizeable to be put in with oscars.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

8-12", i had thought about keeping them with my puffers and doing a brackish tank, but i decided that i would rather just do a full marine tank (got a good deal on some instant ocean marine salt at lfs on sale for about half price) so that would exclude datnoids from the puffer tank but on that note its really a larger fish better suited to a big tank, and yes, they can also be kept in freshwater with oscars, ive seen vids on youtube of them together noddy. i mean reallistically id rather have one of the prettier broadband indo gold tiger datnoid, but they just arent available and the silver one is attractive in its own right. i just think they look cool as hell. i know that a datnoid would have no trouble snacking up the convict fry that my oscars cannot seem to catch at all lol.

Correct me if I am wrong but was the Datnoids suffering from serious fin rot?
With all that food he threw in the tank no wonder....
Anybody with me on this?
The first lot he threw in would have been enough for me. When I kept my fish anything that was not eaten in under a mintue was taken out.

hey Win, i goggled it and found that your datnoid is what we call
KITANG fish here.

this fish is being raise in commercial level together with the
apahap (barramundi).... we have now a fishing site here that
promotes those two specie during game fishing season. i've never
seen that kind of fish in aquarium but in the fish pond...yes...

yes im quite aware how much the other varieties go for, the one i had in mind is $32USD + shipping, like comparing a silver arowana to a RTG lol.

www.petsolutions.com/Silver-Datnoid+I57630+C79.aspx

ive bought plenty of supplies from them now. i think if i were to do a fish thru the mail, it would be okay to use them, they have given me great support so far. but you know if i ordered one fish... i might as well order 5 or 6 because the shipping would be the same... just gotta save some coins and decide what else i want to get!

32US$?????? you can get good stuff for dinner of same fish here at
USD8.70/kilo ( around 8 to 10 pcs- dressed)

if i can only established shipping and delivery business here, i will be
a millionaire soon....
